Why This Pillar Matters
Agriculture
& Food Security
Agriculture is Uganda’s backbone, feeding millions and driving the economy. Yet farmers face fragile soils, erratic rainfall, and limited market access threatening food security for the nation’s most vulnerable.
The Challenge: Fragile Food Systems in a Changing Climate
Smallholder farmers power Uganda’s economy yet face the greatest risks.
For many Ugandans, farming is more than work it is survival. Smallholder farmers produce most of the country’s food, yet they face growing challenges: degraded soils, unpredictable rains, and limited access to climate-smart technologies. These pressures don’t just affect farmers they threaten the food security of the entire nation.

Why This Matters
ARDHI views food security as a fundamental human right. Yet current policies fail to protect small farmers from market volatility or integrate climate resilience. We believe no family should go hungry because of gaps in governance, and no farmer should face climate shocks without support.

Legal and Policy Guidance
From Grassroots to Policy Change
ARDHI bridges the gap between community experiences and policymaking. Through research, dialogue, and advocacy, we ensure that the lessons learned on the ground directly inform national laws and strategies that create lasting change.
How We Are Impacting Lives
ARDHI supports smallholder farmers with knowledge and tools for climate-smart agriculture. Our work specifically promotes sustainable practices, including the adoption of biofertilizers and bio-pesticides to reduce chemical dependency, and supports the advancement of plant culture knowledge. We strengthen community cooperatives, improve access to markets, and promote sustainable soil and water management to reduce hunger and boost resilience.
How We Are Shaping Policy
ARDHI’s advocacy framework is dedicated to the systemic reform of the agricultural sector. Our work focuses on three key pillars; equity, security and sustainability. Through evidence-based research and high-level multi-stakeholder dialogues, ARDHI institutionalizes grassroots representation within national planning processes, ensuring that those who feed the nation are the ones shaping its future.
Our Focus Areas
Strengthening food systems through inclusion and equity.
Women
Promoting access to land, financing, and climate-smart technologies for women farmers to strengthen household food security.
Youth
Supporting youth-led agribusinesses and innovations that create green jobs and improve rural livelihoods.
Child-Headed Families
Advocating for policies that protect vulnerable families’ right to food and access to agricultural programs.
Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
Encouraging inclusive agricultural planning that ensures accessibility to resources, training, and market participation.
Community Work
Working with cooperatives and local groups to build resilient farming communities that can adapt to climate shocks.
Policy Focus
Strengthening national agricultural frameworks to integrate climate resilience and equitable access to resources.
The Future We Imagine
Imagine a Uganda where drought no longer means hunger, where farmers thrive with resilient tools, and where every household has secure access to food. That is the vision ARDHI is fighting for.
