Why This Pillar Matters
INCLUSIVE
LAND GOVERNANCE
Uganda’s land is more than territory—it’s identity, heritage, and survival. Yet millions lack secure tenure, women remain excluded from ownership, and disputes continue to fuel inequality. ARDHI champions fair, transparent, and inclusive land governance for every Ugandan.
The Challenge: Unclear Rights, Unequal Access
Millions depend on land for survival — yet few hold the papers to prove it.
In Uganda, over 70% of land is held under customary tenure, but weak documentation, overlapping claims, and gender barriers make ownership insecure. Families are displaced without compensation, women struggle to inherit land, and local leaders lack the resources to resolve disputes fairly.
Funfact

The Gaps We Must Close
of Uganda’s land is under customary tenure
of women have registered ownership of land they use
of local land disputes go unresolved annually

Why This Matters
Secure land rights are the foundation of social justice and economic progress. Without them, families face eviction, women are silenced, and investments remain risky. ARDHI believes that every Ugandan—man or woman—deserves legal recognition, protection, and voice over the land they call home.
What We’re Fighting For

Strengthen Customary Tenure Systems
Recognize community land ownership and issue Certificates of Customary Ownership that reflect local reality.

Empower Women in Land Rights
Reform inheritance and marriage laws to guarantee women equal access to land ownership and documentation.

Modernize Land Registration
Promote digital land record systems and transparent dispute resolution mechanisms to reduce corruption and fraud.
How We Will Intervene
Research & Evidence
We document land injustices, analyze policy gaps, and highlight the human cost of weak governance.
Advocacy Dialogues
We convene community leaders, policymakers, and reform champions to co-create fair and inclusive land policies.
Legal Guidance
We support citizens and organizations with model contracts, land dispute frameworks, and legal literacy materials.
The Future We Imagine
Imagine a Uganda where land ownership is a right, not a privilege. Where women’s names appear beside men’s on titles, where communities shape their destinies without fear of eviction. That is the vision ARDHI is fighting for — a future of dignity, equality, and justice.
